The Truth Is Out there

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny made their Comic-Con Ballroom 20 entrance on Thursday among darkness, with flashlights in hand, to celebrate The X-Files‘ 20th anniversary and survey the show’s future. (Yes, we said future.)

They were joined by a star-studded lineup of writers/EPs – creator Chris Carter, Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad), Howard Gordon (Homeland) and John Shiban (Hell on Wheels), to name a few – to reminiscence about Mulder and Scully’s relationship and more.

The X-Files was my first fandom. When I discovered the internet and 'user groups/newsgroups/yahoogroups' etc. I discovered fanfic for the very first time. I was amazed that people wrote stories, some of them novel in length. I found sites dedicated to character bios. People analyzed and graded the episodes, discussed theories about the mythology, and even had promo pics for upcoming episodes :)

Sunday nights in college, people came over to my apartment and we did pot lock and watched the newest episode together. We only talked during the commercials then gabbed forever after it was over. Sigh. I can't believe it was 20 years ago.
